巴托克的舞剧《神奇的满大人》因其悲剧性题材而广受关注。该剧本在首演时引发了不小的争议，最终导致演出被迫中止。相比之下，巴尔托克的《小提琴协奏曲第2号》创作于他移居美国之前，自1939年首演以来便被誉为20世纪最具影响力的协奏曲之一，成为经典之作。
这两部作品由迈克尔·吉伦（Michael Gielen）执棒演出，他深谙现代音乐的内涵，巧妙地避免了过度的情感渲染，以精湛的技艺呈现作品的深度和复杂性。2007年，吉伦与巴登-巴登弗赖堡南德广播交响乐团的版本《神奇的满大人》以紧凑而有力的节奏给人留下深刻印象。而《小提琴协奏曲第2号》的演绎，也有1990年克里斯蒂安·特茨拉夫与伦敦交响乐团的经典版本，同样呈现了稳健且出色的演奏。此次担任小提琴独奏的是奥地利小提琴家科瓦契奇，他自年轻时便活跃于现代音乐领域，并曾在多个著名乐团担任艺术总监，其中包括1996至1998年间的维也纳室内管弦乐团。
